THE EDIBLE PARK
In Verona, community gardens provide access to food for members of society in the most need, but the current network has gaps, and is unable to serve all residents. The Edible Park is a pilot project for a community garden which also functions as a public space, providing access to private plots, fresh produce, community education related to personal food production, and affordable farmers markets selling local produce.
*Project completed as a group effort with partners Julia Neldner and Nicola Vanzetto

An inventory of green spaces and urban gardens in Verona is conducted to determine which locations are in need of additional gardens, and which features will make the gardens most successful.

response
To address the gaps in the green network, a green ring is implemented around the historical center utilizing specific actions to increase accessibility. Within the green ring space is dedicated for the edible park which provides amenities and services for residents in 14 different neighborhoods.

actions
In the Edible park, different modular elements are used to adapt the space to the needs of the local community. At the Bastione delle Maddalene, this includes market stands, individual garden plots, and orchards; all of which work together to create a welcoming public space. The modular elements ca be modified and arranged in order to meet the needs of the space where they are installed.
